At least in the beginning it was.
Yesterday was the day of the memorial for Micheal Jackson. I wanted to see at least some of it. The kids were terrors! They sat in the living room and made the most ridiculous amount of noise. So I'm sitting there watching it and wanting to cry, and the kids are being noisy monsters and acting a fool, and I'm screaming at them because while they do indeed quiet down after I tell them to please be quiet, they just start up again in a few minutes. Finally, I just turned it off. It wasn't worth the effort anymore.
I just wish there was some way for me to convey to them what part Michael Jackson played in my life, but they just don't understand. No, I never met him or anything like that. What he was to my life was something of an idol. We never tired of trying to get down all his moves, and I think that we all got our fair share of bruises trying to moonwalk on every surface known to us. We loved him and wanted to emulate him in everything. Hell, I think we were all probably a little IN love with him too.
The day after he died, there was an article in our local paper. I'm sure it was an Associated Press piece, as a lot of the national stuff in there is. In that article, the author mentioned that he had spent some time with Michael, and during one conversation Michael had mentioned that he just wanted people to love him. The fact that so many people are grieving for the loss of his person, and are claiming to have loved him, it's sad to know that while he was living he never felt that he was loved as much as we are now seeing. I think it's always sad that people are so loved and they don't feel it, no matter what or how they are shown love.
I can only hope that in his death he has found peace and knows, truly knows, how much he was loved, and just how important he was to all of us.
Well, after the MJ debacle, we took off all together. We had found that X-Men Wolverine was playing at the Picture Show in Superstition Springs Mall. Tuesdays are $1 so it was perfect. Although, they were also playing the Hannah Montana movie, which I had previously promised Halle we would go see together. So the question became, Does she want to see Wolverine or Hannah? I could care less, as even though Hugh Jackman is a 'robo babe', I am tired as all hell of the X-Men period. (I also forgot that Ryan Reynolds was in the movie which normally would seal the deal, but oh well.) That is how I ended up in a little theater at noon watching Hannah Montana. Not a terribly awful movie. Definitely not an Oscar winner, but not worth killing myself over.
When the movie was done, we had about 30 minutes before the Wolverine movie was done so Halle and I schlepped across to Borders Books. Mostly, I wanted to see how much Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was in paperback, but also, I hadn't been in a book store in a looong time and just wanted to stare.
Naturally, we walked in and went right past the rather large stack of Harry Potter books right in the front of the store. I sort of got distracted by the men in their Army uniforms. That happens to me sometimes. We wandered around and then there was an announcement. It was about Harry Potter. $14.99. Yea, right! At Walmart it's Easily $10! I wasn't going to pay that much when I could go and get one for almost $5 less.
So we wandered around some more. I guess we were looking nefarious or something because this woman came up to us and asked if we needed any help. I of course said no, thanks we're just looking. Normally, that's the end of it. But not for her. She kept talking! I kept smiling and nodding. Then she said, "You know Harry Potter came out today." Yep, sure did. Only that comment was completely random. Out of nowhere. Finally she walked away, and I said, "yea it's out, and I'm going to buy it somewhere for $5 less. HA!" No one heard me, but I felt that it still needed to be said out loud.
We went out to lunch, and when we were done, we drove over to Walmart. Upon entering, though, there wasn't any sort of display stacked with paperback Harry Potters. There also weren't any on the shelves. Oh horrors!!
Home again, all the while wishing I was on my way to Target. Lunch was LATE so there wasn't any rush on dinner, but for some reason, David felt the need to go out to Blockbuster to return movies and get some more. But he didn't want to go to Target. Oh well...
I made dinner. No one was hungry, so it sat on the stove. I got tired of watching Back to The Future movies (we've now seen all three this week), so I grabbed my keys and wallet and took off. Normally, it's Walmart that doesn't fail me, this time Target pulled through. I was so excited!
Now I've got it and Joseph wants to read it. How dare he!

At The Library
I'm here at the Maricopa County Library in Queen Creek, AZ. It's fairly new, and while they were building it, we'd drive by and wonder what it was going to be. David's vote was always for a movie theater, but he thinks they should put them EVERYWHERE, like the backyard, next to my Starbucks. I was thinking it was going to be an ice rink, which in Arizona, would be an excellent thing. Even after I knew what it was going to be, I would forget and dream of amazing things in this building.
Turns out, there is something amazing here. An amazing MONEY MACHINE! See, technically, I don't live in Queen Creek. They just called it that for lack of a name, and the need of a name for postal purposes. Officially we were unincorporated Queen Creek, which is kinda long, but the postal service gave us a zip code and pasted us on to the town. Actually, we're not even in the same county as Queen Creek, and because of the growth the area is experiencing, the postal service decided to give us a new zip code. The powers that be however decided that since we were getting a new zip code and businesses all around would be having to change their letter heads and all that, and it would cost so much, that they really and truly needed to give our little town a name. They posted a poll online for this, and all of 2,000 people voted. Out of over at least 10,000. The highest percentage I believe was 18% and that went to San Tan Valley. So OFFICIALLY I live in San Tan Valley, Pinal County, AZ. Only no one knows it or is acknowledging it yet. Anyways... This library here, is much more convenient to get to than the one that's in my county, and honestly a lot better looking. So I came here in search of Wi-Fi, and maybe a detour to Target later. I walked in and was told that since I lived in Pinal County, I would have to pay $50 a year to use the library. Ummm, no. But they have this handy card called an Oasis card that allows me access to the Wi-Fi and computers for $5 a month. Wicked!!
So here I am at the library. Where it's cool, and it smells good. ;)
Speaking of Wicked... It's coming to ASU Gammage theater here pretty soon (Oh and so are NKOTB, on the same day that Harry Potter opens... Guess who's getting all my money that day?) I'm not going to go to Wicked, which is sad, because I'd really like to see how the musical is different from the books, and I don't need any of you smart alecks to tell me that there's singing.
I'm still searching for a job and on my way back I'm going to be faxing my resume off to several more people. It's getting to be a pain in the butt.
I should go and get busy on that. Have a fantastic Monday!!

What The...?!?!
I worked today. Didn't do much of anything, but when I tried to get my top of upon arriving home, it got stuck. So, it was mostly because I forgot the all important step of untying the back... when I did untie it, I still had trouble getting the darn thing off.
For some reason, elderly folks seem to get cold. A lot. And I'm not talking about the thing with girls and their cold feet and boys screaming like banshees because they got touched by the icicles at the end of a girl's legs. I'm talking about it being over 100 degrees outside and the woman having the heater going and the sliding glass doors open all day long. I'm talking about a woman wandering around the house in a terry cloth robe and still complaining of being cold.
In other words, if Arizona is the devil's armpit, the apartment I was in today is... well, I don't know what can be worse than the devil's armpit. What gets hotter than that? Then, of course I have to walk to the car. Which more than likely has had the sun shining directly on it for the better part of at least 2 hours. (It gets shade for at least 1 hour.)
Despite having a window shade in the windshield, the car is at least 10 degrees warmer than the outside. I have to sit in the car for at least a few minutes with the window open, and the a/c blowing full blast. This gets very hot and very boring very quickly, so I pull away from the curb and roll up the window. It takes me 45 minutes to get home. Depending on the mood of my car, the a/c can actually start blowing cold air anywhere from 20-30 minutes after the car starts, with me not noticing it's cold until I'm about 5 minutes from the house.
Now, here's some funny stuff that's been bopping around in my brain for awhile:
For his birthday/Christmas (they're a few months apart, but it still counts) gift, David bought himself (and it was so totally from me) a grilling cookbook. His first attempt was grilled stuffed chicken breasts. They were AMAZING! We had 5 chicken breasts and they were all gone at the end of dinner-no leftovers, and everyone was asking for seconds!
We've had them a few times, including on my birthday (he made more than 5). What I didn't know was that the recipe called for sun dried tomatoes. At the store, David is completely inept, and couldn't find any so he used regular tomatoes. He sliced them up, put them on a paper towel, and laid them out in the sun. To dry. Get it: Sun Dried Tomatoes? Hehe. I got a kick out of it.
Halle is a little budding artist. The boys helped her today to work on drawing the characters of Madagascar (it's in the special features). She drew them all, and they were all giggling because they kept pausing the dvd so Halle could catch up. She did pretty well!
Nothing else is going on, we all feel like we're gonna melt. All day and night. And we're more than likely just going to hang out at the house all day tomorrow, which is no fun, but oh well. LOL! It's so warm and I don't think David'll wanna make the trek all the way back to Florence to watch fireworks.
At least I won't be on the roof of the house this year.
Have a great 4th o f July, and a fantastic weekend!!

I Keep Thinking About Weather Reports
Last night after dinner, I went upstairs to brush my teeth. Since no one else was upstairs I turned on the television to listen to while I was up there.
A live report was being done on Channel 5 by Omadalle Nelson. I listened from the bathroom, and then while I was walking out, Omadalle stopped speaking. I looked up and saw this. Made my day. Poor girl.
Is anyone else getting tired of all the speculation surrounding Michael Jackson's death? I know I am. I wish they'd just let it go. Especially those 'news' magazine shows like Access and that other one I can't remember the name of. Things are getting ridiculous.
And speaking of people dying, what the heck is in the water out there in Hollywood that every one is kicking the bucket? Now that's getting scary. Good thing I'm not famous.
